Auto glass is much better than it used to be but it still suffers from chips, scratches and cracks that need to be repaired or replaced.

Getting a chip doesn’t feel like much to worry about, but driving over a pothole can turn that chip into a crack that will result in a full window replacement.

This is incredibly frustrating – as you may know! – so even small chips and cracks should not be ignored.

In most cases, a chip or crack is accidental, but sometimes your car may have been the victim of a break-in attempt. Whatever the circumstances, we can help.

Houston Windscreen and Car Window Repair

If you live in the Houston area, whatever your auto glass problem, you can trust Uptown Automotive to get you back on the road quickly. Our experienced, highly trained technicians will diagnose your problem and offer solutions that will have your car looking like new at a fair price.

We understand that many of our customers have questions and concerns they would like answered before they bring their car to us, so we’ve answered the most common below:

Does My Car Windshield Need to be Repaired or Replaced?

Small chips and cracks of, say, less than an inch or so in your windshield can often be repaired, and should be, as small cracks can grow into big ones. If you are not sure whether to get it fixed or replaced, trust the professionals at Uptown Automotive. We will examine the damage carefully and give you our considered opinion.

How Long Can I Leave a Cracked Windshield for?

A small crack that doesn’t interfere with the driver’s vision is probably going to be okay for a week or so but, as noted above, a small crack will grow eventually if nothing is done about it. A bigger crack will need a more costly repair or possibly replacement, so it’s worth getting it booked in to be fixed.

Most people don’t realize that the windshield of a car forms part of the structural integrity of the vehicle adding to its strength in case of an accident, so any crack may mean an accident is worse for the passengers than it should be.

How Long Does a Car Window Repair Take?

Repair of small chips can typically be done in around half an hour. Replacement of a windshield usually takes about an hour but then the urethane needs time to cure, so you need to allow two to four hours before you can drive away. Side windows can often be replaced in an hour.

How Much is This Going to Cost?

The cost of windshield or other auto glass repairs varies widely depending upon what is required and the make and model of the vehicle. However, a common cost for an entire windshield replacement is between $150-$400, and a common cost for side glass replacement is between $120-250.

What About Side and Rear Windows?

Although damage to the windshield is most common, at Uptown Automotive we are fully equipped to deal with any auto glass problems you have. Whether that involves the windshield, rear window or side windows we have the skills and training to help.

Side windows are usually less expensive to replace than windshields but this does vary from vehicle to vehicle.

Can I Drive as Normal After My Car Window is Repaired or Replaced?

With the side windows, there shouldn’t be any issues but because the windshield and rear window use urethane as an adhesive which needs time to cure you need to be a little careful. It is recommended that for a day or two you leave a side window open enough to stop pressure build-up when you close a door just in case the glass pops out of the new seal.

It's also not wise to wash a new windshield or rear window for a couple of days in case a cleaning product damages the new seal.

Will Any Damage Occur to My Vehicle During Glass Repair or Replacement?

No damage of any kind will happen to your vehicle while we are fixing or replacing the glass. We take great pains to make sure all surrounding areas are fully protected before any installation process.

Will You Clean Up the Broken Glass?

Yes, our technicians will vacuum your car to remove any traces of broken glass.

What About My Rearview Mirror?

Your vehicle's rearview mirror will be removed from the old windshield and reattached to the new one.

Will My Insurance Pay for My Car Window Repair or Replacement?

If you have comprehensive coverage there is the likelihood that repair and/or replacement of your vehicle’s glass may be covered though you might have a deductible you have to pay. Some states have begun to offer full glass coverage as an add-on. You need to check your declaration page or call your agent to be sure.

Can I Drop My Car off and Pick it up Later, or Do I Have to Wait?

We can usually accommodate either but please call to check.

Do You Provide a Guarantee?

Our workmanship is guaranteed on all glass replacements for the life of the vehicle and we guarantee that repairs won't spread.
